1. Customizing the theme

Adding links:

Add your other site related links by editing the nav.php. In the theme, there are four links available. You can reduce it if you like. But if you're adding more links, be sure to watch the width as more links make force the navbar below your blog title (or go ahead if that's what you like, but I've warned you).

Changing the banner image:

You can customize the theme to suit to your taste like the banner image. Just replace the banner.jpg with an image of your choice. Just make sure your image is named as banner.jpg (or else you can edit style.css to use the filename of your banner image).

Other customizations:

Sidebar listings can be edited to remove, add or change by editing sidebar.php file as necessary.

Some of the more advanced customizations require that certain plugins be installed. WordPress Plugin directory is available at: http://wp-plugins.net/ . Feel free to hack away as you like it.

2. Installing the theme

Unzip the file plain-vanilla.zip to your local computer. You'll see plain-vanilla folder with theme files in it. Upload the entire folder to wp-content/themes folder on your WordPress installation folder (on your host server).

Login to your WordPress adminstration panel and select Presentation menu. There you should see Plain Vanilla theme present. Click on the Activate button on the right. View your site. Your site should now have Plain Vanilla theme.
